About UpMo
Q: What exactly is UpMo?
A: UpMo, a different kind of career management service, gives professionals career control—unusual in a day when career path direction seems to rest solely on the mood of the economy, a company or, even worse, chance. To provide this control, UpMo helps professionals view and manage their careers as discrete "projects," complete with daily actions and expert advice to light and map the way. Learn more about the unique ways in which UpMo supports career professionals by clicking here.
UpMo helps professionals:
- Explore, in detail, the career steps and pratices and practices of real-world professionals who've been there, done that.
- Follow proven paths to career success gleaned from extensive research into the advancement practices, skills and daily habits of high-earning professionals.
- Better understand and articulate their unique career wants and requirements.
- Build a step-by-step career strategies and detailed plans for skills acquisition proven to lead to advancement.
- Develop, manage and nurture professional networks to prepare for future opportunities—and to find current openings within existing networks.
- Find relevant non-network job openings that match students' interests, abilities and career goals.
Q: I'm already on LinkedIn, Xing, Plaxo, Spoke or another networking site. Why do I need UpMo?
A: UpMo isn't a professional networking site. Rather, UpMo helps you prioritize and leverage your existing relationships—including those from LinkedIn. We combine this information with other critical details of your career path, skills, and interests to support your career goals and your Intelligent Job Hunt™.
Q: How does UpMo compare with existing job boards?
A: Today's job boards are like online black holes: job seekers enter their profiles, and enter and enter some more. But nothing ever comes out; seekers never receive a response, from anyone. UpMo also absorbs your input, but provides much output in return, including personalized career advice informed by science and relevant to each member. In addition, we combine input from your career profile to immediately begin sending daily guidance based on indicated interests, skills, career paths and professional networks. The advice UpMo provides, beyond being personalized, is incredibly powerful: it's based on proven success techniques drawn from millions of career-related data points uncovered through our research.
Q: Help me understand how UpMo is different. What is UpMo NOT?
A: First, UpMo is not a job board. We don't ask members to load their resumes and profiles into an online black hole. We don't accept job listings from corporations either, but rather cull, relevant intelligent listings from your network and other online sources that match, spot-on, and that act as stepping stones to your career goals.
Second, UpMo is not appropriate for individuals seeking extremely senior or entry-level roles. The tools and guidance we provide is for mid-career professionals in high-velocity senior manager or director-level roles either getting ready for or in the thick of career transition. And, in today's workplace, where the key to success is to always be ready for your next transition, that's just about all of us!
Q: Who are UpMo's competitors?
A: Because UpMo provides end-to-end career lifecycle support, we have no real competitors, Other services provides bits and pieces—resume critiques, career diagnostic tools, job databases, career articles. But no service other than UpMo provides a comprehensive, automated, step-by-step way for you to plan and move through your career. UpMo allows you to view and treat your career as "projects", complete with strategic and tactical action plans for getting all things done related to your career.
About the Intelligent Job Hunt™
Q: What is the Intelligent Job Hunt™? What makes it "intelligent"?
A: The Intelligent Job Hunt™ is your scientifically-proven job search that actively pinpoints opportunities that you have a high probability of landing—getting you the job you really want faster.
We do this by leveraging a patent pending engine that searches and prioritizes jobs according to your interests, skills, career path, and professional network, only showing you the best opportunities. We then provide the next-step guidance that you need to land the job you want and excel within the first 90 days.
Q: Why not just use a job board to find my next opportunity?
A: With nearly six unemployed Americans for every available job opportunity, getting hired is clearly a challenge. Unfortunately, the old ways of searching for jobs don’t work anymore. Big job boards cannot present you with the highly-compatible job matches that you should be applying to. Your job hunt should be unique, personal and intelligent. UpMo's scientifically proven methodology gives you the inside edge you need.
Q: What do the different sections of the Intelligent Job Hunt™ mean?
A: UpMo presents your custom job matches in four different categories:
- Lateral moves —your most quickly attainable results.
- Next Steps —openings that represent the next step in your career.
- In My Network — job matches exclusively from companies associated with your network, including those from LInkedIn.
- Near My Home — opportunities within close proximity of your home zip code.
Q: I’m new to UpMo. What should I do to start getting custom Intelligent Job Hunt™ job matches?
A: It’s simple. To kick off your Intelligent Job Hunt™, take the Job-Hunt Readiness Evaluator and input your career details into My Profile.
About the Job-Hunt and Network Readiness Evaluators
Q: What is the Job-Hunt Readiness Evaluator?
A: The Job-Hunt Readiness Evaluator is a powerful, precise assessment tool—developed in partnership with career experts at Robert Half International—that measures how prepared you are to hunt and land the right job in the next 90 days.
The Job-Hunt Readiness Evaluator captures vital information about you—your perspective, behavior, and network—and then analyzes and compares your answers to elite professionals and millions of other data points to assess how ready you are to land the right job in today's market. It specifically measures how you approach common business situations, as well as the composition and context of your network.
Like the Job-Hunt Readiness Evaluator, the Network Readiness Evaluator takes in hard data about you—your position and stage of career transition, your attitude, behaviors, likes and dislikes related to networking—and matches you against thousands of others to determine your Network Readiness Score and your networking style. It also provides very specific, personalized recommendations you can act on immediately to strengthen your network.

A: If you have already completed either assessment, you can access your reports in the "My Readiness State" section of your My Profile page.
Q: Can I share my reports with others?
A: Yes. On the top right corner on your Job-Hunt/Network Readiness Report page, there is a box labeled "Share your Job-Hunt/Network Readiness Report". You can share your report(s) over various social networks and bookmarking sites by clicking on the icons.

A: Yes. In the "My Notifications" area of your My Profile page, you can choose to be notified of My Action Plan tasks via email on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
About My Network
Q: How should I use the My Network page?
A: The My Network page allows you to manage and tier the members of your professional network. But, it’s not just a contact list. The Intelligent Job Hunt™ scans your relationships and, based upon how you’ve prioritized them, provides custom job-matches from companies represented in your network. My Network also impacts your Action Plan; UpMo delivers personalized tasks encouraging outreach to specific, valuable members of your network.
Q: What do the terms Comrade, Colleague, and Contact mean?
A: The terms Comrades, Colleagues, and Contacts are a way to view your network connections. Your Comrades are made up of trusted members of your professional network who are closest to you and can speak honestly about your career goals, path, competencies and weaknesses. Typically, this inner circle consists of around seven people and represents a variety of industries. Colleagues are members of your inner ring of up to 150 people that includes professionals in your industry, people who share your role in an adjacent industry, and members of your groups and associations. Your colleagues can help you access companies and opportunities, gather information, and keep your finger on the pulse. Contacts consist of your entire network including any number of folks who you know, but who do not make any significant contribution to your professional success or advancement.
Q: Why should I prioritize members of my network?
A: Because your relationship with a loose connection (a Contact) and someone who is your Comrade are different, they need to be managed and used in different ways. Prioritizing your relationships allows UpMo to determine how to best help you leverage your network.
