2. Be vocal on Twitter. First, build out your Twitter profile making sure to include a brief bio, your location and a link to your newly-created blog, or even your LinkedIn page.. Next, perform a Twitter search to find the profiles of recruiters and hiring managers at companies for which you desire to work. Engage—gradually build relationships by starting meaningful conversations that highlight your expertise. Then, dive in—let them know that you’re looking and get on their radar for available opportunities.

Also, earn Twitter followers by keeping your content (affectionately known as “Tweets”) compelling. If you broadcast your job search objectives, you never know who might come to help!

3. Optimize your LinkedIn account. Don’t derail your job search with a lackluster LinkedIn profile. Assume that your LinkedIn presence is your first impression because oftentimes, it is.

Make sure that you have a strong summary and a well-articulated career history that are both keyword-heavy. This will improve your LinkedIn profile’s chances of coming up in keyword searches by potential employers. Remember, endorsements are key—be sure to get strong recommendations from credible members of your network. Asking your network is a great way to keep them informed and open the door for more help. Another way to keep them “in the know” is with frequent status update related to your job hunt.

4. Clean up your Facebook profile. While Facebook may not be a reliable job-finding resource, it certainly could cost you opportunities. If you're on Facebook, be sure to clean up your profile—ditch the questionable photos, off-topic content and widgets. Also, be very selective about who you decide to add as a friend. Alternatively, if Facebook is to be your personal playground, be extremely restrictive with your privacy settings.
