Network Readiness Evaluator FAQ
A: We're providing the Network Readiness Evaluator for free because there's so much noise and misinformation in the professional networking space today. (Plus, we wanted to help people stop from having to say, "I know I should network more.") It's hard for serious professionals to sift through it all. We know—we've tried. Consider the Network Readiness Evaluator and its outcome, a comprehensive, individualized "State of Your Network" report, our version of a public service announcement.
A: Again, think public service announcement! You won't have to jump through hoops after you take the Evaluator. In fact, you'll get your Network Readiness Score and other basic results without even giving us your e-mail address. If you'd like more detail, we'll ask for your first name and e-mail address so we can e-mail your results to you. That's it.
A: Because your network is going to be what empowers you and supports you now and in troubled times. So if you want to move your career forward DESPITE what's happening all around you, then you need to manage your network in relation to your career goals—you need to build The Networking Habit™. Consider:
- A recent ExecuNet survey revealed that 70 percent of executives credit networking as the key activity that leads to career opportunities.
- Monster.com has 75 million resumes. Yet our economy pumps out only four million jobs each year. And the largest-ever decreases in job growth are happening right now.
- A recent Jobvite survey reported that 88 percent of people use social networking sites like LinkedIn (#1), Facebook (#2) and Jobster (#3) for finding jobs. Yet those same sites, while a great way for you to view your social graph, don't give you the ACTIONABLE networking tools you need to get ahead.
A: No, the advice we give you will be tailored to YOU. There's nothing worse than an insincere networker, and we know that the key to being sincere is in doing things you're comfortable doing. In fact, once you're paired with an UpModel, you'll receive custom-tailored advice from someone who matches your style and has been-there, done-that.
A: UpMo specifically measures how you approach common business situations, as well as the composition and context of your network. We also look more at your attitudes and behaviors as they relate to networking versus at specific career skills or traits. And while personality tests are a fun exercise and can teach you how to interact with others, ours is meant as a first step toward helping you discover the specific activities that will help you protect your career and get—and keep—you upwardly mobile.
A: We've read those articles and studies, too. They aren't much practical use because they focus more on attitudes: how to think about networks, how to conceptualize relationships, our "intent." Truth is, even with the right intentions, we're only going to achieve success when we do the things we LIKE to do—versus merely thinking about the things we OUGHT to do. That's why we customize and individualize the recommendations and advice we give you—so you're asked to do things you LIKE to do.
